Coloring challenge

day 1 march 4 15

Kathy from the daily marker has started a 30 day challenge–to color “something” for even 5 minutes/day for 30 days. Kathy is an awesome artist, she does awesome coloring. I decided to join this challenge, since coloring is therapeutic and fun! I had started an art journal, with the rule being no erasing allowed! I sit in the evening watch TV and doodling in my journal, so relaxing and fun.

For my first day of coloring, since Birthday season is upon us, I decided to experiment with glossy paper and alcohol inks. I thought I could “color” the stamped design with Tim Holtz’ marker and alcohol inks placed in his palette. I did the background first, using the ink blender tool, very funny and easy to do. I stamped my designs with archival black ink, still going well. When I tried to color with the marker, I ended up with a huge mess, probably because I had overfilled the alcohol marker. My first result was more of a science experiment. I then decided to try copic markers, which did work, choosing colors was sort of a guessing game, going over the background. But this is all about experimenting and having fun and it was. Hopefully I can post every day, but as life is busy and full “manipulations” I’ll try to do my best. A huge thanks to Kathy and her inspiration.
